An important part of life for many people is the support of sports teams and the playing of sport. As members of the community settled they formed sports teams and some became fervent supporters of local Derby teams such as Derby County Football Club.
"He was a keen Derby County Fan. He’d go and see the matches at the Baseball Ground, usually from half time because you would be let in for free then. I think football unified people and it was the collective support of Derby County."
Archive ParticipantSport can be an important community tool in bringing people together, both at hobbyist and professional stages. From games of women’s handball at the community centre, to semi professional football teams, it has helped members of the community keep active and to come together in mutual support.
