This ambitious archive brings together historic family photographs, audio testimonies and contemporary portraiture to document the experience of South Asians settling in the city of Derby between the 1950s and the 1980s. Derby Museums and the Black Country Visual Arts have worked together with South Asian communities in Derby to crowdsource material, which will be held at Derby Museums and in a digital archive that will be free to access locally, nationally and internationally in the years to come.

Working with community hubs, groups and local connections, the archive has digitised and conserved over 1000 historic images that have been generously shared with us. This website brings together the material collected, including stories of celebration, adversity and community in this city we call home. Gathered into themes, or with the whole archive to browse at your fingertips, we hope it will share the story of Derby's diverse communities for the years to come.

This project has been made possible thanks to generous funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. We'd like to thank all lottery players who help make this possible. Derby Museums and the BCVA would also like to thank project partners including the Indian Community Centre, the Pakistan Community Centre, Derby Asian Strategic Partnership, The University of Derby, W W Winters Photography and the Local Studies Library for their ongoing support through this project.
